Our Pond

We have been keeping koi since 1983 and have been members of the Northern Section of the BKKS and the Northern Koi Club throughout the period of keeping koi. In 2005 we commenced a small specialist koi outlet called Your Koi. Your Koi specialises in selecting high quality koi from farms in Niigata and Isawa for both retail and wholesale. We have purchased koi from Hiroi Koi Farm since 1992 and have built up a very close relationship enabling us to purchase some of his best stocks and occasionally some koi which would not normally be for sale. Hiroi Koi Farm is noted for its Goshiki and Showa and is always a friendly and welcoming Koi Farm to visit. We regularly purchase koi from Kaneko, Marusho, Fujio Oomo, Yamamatsu and Torazo. We have recently purchased some very good koi from Otsuka and also some superb metallic koi from Kase. We visit nearly every koi farm in Niigata and in Autumn particularly enjoy at least one harvest every few days. We try to pick koi with a good future for growth and development but will only use the term Tategoi if the breeder himself states that it is Tategoi.

We have built up a great trust in some of the farmers and are more than happy to tell them what we want and how much we are prepared to pay. We find that this saves time and that the farmer will provide a selection of koi, for us to choose from, invariably of a higher grade than if we select the koi and then ask the price. We also respect the advice as to whether or not a koi will benefit from being left in Japan and having a year or more in a mud pond, a most exciting experience for any koi keeper.

We are particularly strict on quarantine procedures and do not allow any koi to leave our premises for at least four weeks after their arrival in the UK. Koi can be purchased from photographs, from this website or even by e-mail direct from Japan but they still require a four week quarantine period before leaving. The koi purchased as wholesale are preferably collected on the day of arrival in the UK and the quarantine procedure will be carried out by the purchasing dealer. Our retail outlet is at our home with a separate wholesale facility nearby. Please take time to click on “Our Pond” to see our own collection of koi and look out for our advertised koi events or give us a call to arrange a visit. If you have always had a dream of a visit to Japan please take a moment to look at our “Trips to Japan” page, we believe we offer a trip to suit those people who would like to experience a little bit more in Japan in terms of culture, food and sight seeing. We have trips arranged this Autumn and Spring and Autumn 2007. Contact us for further details.
