Our pond was renewed in 2002 and is now 7,500 gallons completely enclosed in a purpose built conservatory. The pond which is heated by its own gas fired boiler, has 2 aerated bottom drains each of which feeds its own filtration system comprising settling vortex and three matting vortex chambers with the water being returned at mid-water level by an Aquamax 5500. Two further Aquamax pumps continually circulate the water to provide good exercise for the koi. The pond is home to about 30 large koi from 55cm to a 95 cm Chagoi and 4 Showa purchased from Hiroi Koi Farm, 2 of which were left to grow on for a year in the mud ponds. In addition to the pond aeration there is substantial aeration in the filters and maintenance is carried out daily flushing the settling vortexes and in rotation the matting chambers. We believe that all dirt should be removed from your filters to allow good stable biological action and believe in constant water changing to ensure that koi are provided with optimum water quality for their health and development.
